Networking Breakfast

Save the Date

We hope you'll join us on September 20, 2010 to watch the live feed from NYC of TEDxChange. Convened by Melinda French Gates and featuring some of the world’s most inspired thinkers and doers, including TED Curator Chris Anderson.  TEDxChange marks the anniversary of the Millennium Development goals: Ten years in, where does the global community stand in the work to save and improve lives around the world? And what does the future hold?

The Seattle event will be co-hosted by the University of Washington’s Master of Communication in Digital Media program (MCDM, which held TEDxSeattle last April) in collaboration with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.  Come early for a free networking coffee and pastry breakfast.  MCDM Director Hanson Hosein will welcome participants, followed by his colleague, Anita Verna Crofts who will give a short talk entitled, “Transforming the Transaction: Food for Thought on Community Partnerships that Change the World .”  Our special guest, Bill Gates Sr. will then provide introductory remarks for TEDx Change, to what promises to be an inspiring 90 minutes of ideas about The Future We Make.

About TEDx
TED is a nonprofit devoted to ideas worth spreading. TED believes passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives, and ultimately, the world. To this end, it hosts annual conferences exploring many of the issues facing our world.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.

About MCDM
The University of Washington’s Master of Communication in Digital Media gives professionals the necessary tools to understand the fast changing world of media technology and distribution. The MCDM works with students to develop sound strategies on how to communicate with influence and persuasion in this “noisy” digital age, share best practices as to how to assess and measure what constitutes successful communication, and provides their students the context and analytical skills to grasp the big picture of technology and communication, and provide strategic leadership based on these key insights. These defined MCDM strategic competencies, combined with our dynamic faculty and rich community partnerships, attract students from across disciplines and from all corners of the world.

About Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
Guided by the belief that every life has equal value, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation works to help all people lead healthy, productive lives. In developing countries, it focuses on improving people’s health and giving them the chance to lift themselves out of hunger and extreme poverty. In the United States, it seeks to ensure that all people—especially those with the fewest resources—have access to the opportunities they need to succeed in school and life. Based in Seattle, Washington, the foundation is led by CEO Jeff Raikes and Co-chair William H. Gates Sr., under the direction of Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett.
